Fossil ID?

I found this thing that looks like a vertebrae. Was found on the beach. Is quite heavy.

Not a vertebra. Looks more like slag to me. There are a lot of beaches in Canada. Exactly which one do you mean?

Not bone to my eye.  Where did you find this?  If we knew that we could perhaps tell you what sort of fossils (if any) you might expect to find.

Lots of volcanic rocks
