strange coral that needs ID

Hi this is matt again the other day in the creek I found this strange fossil coral can anyone id it for me ?

+1 for piece of a rugose(horn) coral. those are so cool to find, when you find one there’s a really good chance you’ll find a bunch more!

Hi Matt,

 

I assume you already knew it was a solitary rugose coral and you were looking for a more specific ID.  Unfortunately with these corals you would have to make thin sections, oriented to make longitudinal and transverse (cross) sections to get an ID.  Since it is worn we don"t have any surface features to go by, and since it was loose in the stream bed it could have come from any one of several different formations so we can't even make an "educated guess" based on the source layer.
