Found today on the English Yorkshire Coast ( Runswick bay). At first i thought it was maybe layers of a type of fossilised plant but I cant find anything to match the markings on this. Completely baffled by it. Looks very cool though. ID help, please?

I think it looks like cone in cone structures, not a fossil but an interesting find.

I'm a bit confused...why is this not a fossil?

Sorry, answered above.

Nice find. I'm 68 and have never found one let alone seen on in person. Not something commonly found in my neck of the woods.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Thankyou, I'm really pleased I decided to bring it home. I almost left it for someone else but couldnt as it intrigued me so and I had to find out what it was!

I agree that it’s geological, but still very cool. I would keep it and display it on my non fossil shelf. I can’t help but come home with a few geological items when I go fossil hunting. :)
