Exogyra found in DFW creek

Creek - Don

Recommended Posts

I know this is a Exogyra oyster, but part of the fossil has been broken off.  On the end, it seems to show fossilized flesh?

What is that long thing? Internal flesh?

LOL, I must be seeing things than.  Got it!  They are all shells.

Oysters, both extinct and extant have really irregular shells. Just Google oyster shell and check out the images. Or just buy some at the nearest supermarket.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Interesting oyster. Have you done anything to clean the matrix off or was it found like that? If you could post a few more views from different angles we my be able to help you visualize the parts you see in a way that makes more sense. Thanks for posting.

Yes, I have cleaned the outside, but the matrix was pretty much worn down to what you see there.  Here is the close up of interior.
