Hello

Sorry I'm new I just registered to find some answers

Yesterday while searching for some fossilized clams or marine stuff I came across this little beauty.

It's about 7 cm wide and some 5 cm high.

I found it at the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia.

Anybody knows what it could be?

And, what do I do with it now? Do I carry it to a museum?

Kind regards

What is it then?

Let me take a picture from the other side. It's to symetric to be random patterns.

The lighter colored pattern is likely cross sections of shells. I'm not at all sure though.

The shape of the entire piece is quite skull like, but it lacks any of the features of bone.

The stuff on the left side looks like vertebrae in my opinion. The part in the middle has something that looks like bone marrow in the bottom part.

Still, if it's just coincidental shell parts arranged like a skull, it would be a nice piece of decoration I guess :)

Welcome to the forum. Yes, it makes a nice decorative piece. I can understand that you can see a skull in it, since it does outwardly resemble one to a certain extent, but your "vertebrae" are really crosscuts through what are probably bivalve shells and there is no sign of bone substance. See here.

The two sides are totally different from each other, dimensionally and proportionally. Are you suggesting that two different species of dinosaur shared the same skull?

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

No I did not, in fact, suggest that.

Thanks all the same, they do differ more and more the longer I look at it. Cheers :)
