Found this piece on a beach near Whitby known for Jurassic marine fossils. Is it anything of interest; wood perhaps, or just inorganic?

Thanks

It's a piece of calcite cone-in-cone, a diagenetic sedimentary structure that often occurs in some beds around there. Often mistaken for fossils of some sort - a search for "cone-in-cone" will bring up lots of information. :)

Many thanks again. I’ll pop it in the box of interesting rocks, definitely one worth keeping

Yup, worth keeping. Very interesting geological processes involved. I was fascinated by the info and images I found.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
