Congratulations Scott! :yay-smiley-1:  It's great to see your contributions to trilobitology being recognized like this.

I imagine this might be presumptuous of me, but would it be possible for you to offer a short "bio" about how you came to be so active in the field?

Yeah, those boulders!  One almost killed me one day!

Soon after I began collecting I discovered the great importance of the literature, in particular the citations.  ...

For many years I have been amassing hundreds of thousands of pages of literature...

Over the years I have seen numerous systematics/taxonomy grad students (Entomology in this case, but it's no different for other disciplines) spend years accumulating the literature they need to complete their research.  I cannot state emphatically enough what a boon it is to have this legwork done in advance, so all the relevant papers are accessible in one place.  This can shave a huge amount of time off of a project.  Also to be honest most people find the task of chasing down obscure/old papers tedious and/or frustrating in the extreme, so having it done by someone who enjoys the challenge is a real boon.  Lastly, for those who haven't the experience of working in taxonomy, the task of assembling the literature is not just a formality, it is critical to the work.  Overlooking a paper can be disastrous.  Taxonomy is based on priority: the first validly published name for a species (or other taxon) takes priority over any subsequently published names, which are considered to be junior synonyms.  Such junior synonyms are relegated to the trash bin, discarded and forbidden to be used ever again.  Imagine the poor researcher who overlooks a paper and subsequently discovers that all of their "new" species had already been named, and their years of work must be discarded.

No wonder piranha is held in such esteem!
