Is this for real ?!

Hey all! I’ve never considered buying a fossil when I can go outside and find some but I might change my mind for this one. What would you guys think if you saw this at an antique store?

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Is this for real ?!

Looks very very fishy if you ask me and no pun intended.   check out the weight?  Is it heavy?  If its been heavily restored it will be full of either 2 part putty or some kind of resin and it will be light in weight.  It should be heavy like a rock if its real.   I also can't give you a price as to what its worth but for me,,, no way would i buy this.  Good luck

As stated, per our Forum Rules and Community Standards, ... we do not give appraisals. It is more than can be done through photographs online.

Check against other retailers or auction sites.

That said, there sure looks like there is some restoration in the tip, to me.

I had no clue teeth could even be restored this extensively. That’s really cool to see I appreciate the explanation!

To be honest the restoration here is fairly messy .. the bourlette has also been restored and doesn't look great either.  You would be surprised but there are experts out on the web and here on the forum that can do a much better job and the results are sometimes indistinguishable from an unrestored tooth.

As a 'good' example here are images from user Naturesrelix on Instagram.  He is from South Carolina and his work is phenomenal. He is great because he gives snaps of what the before looked like ...
