Teeth at Big Brook and Ramanessin NJ

Pinelands Mike

I found this tooth in Ramanessin Brook near Big Brook. The guy leading the group said it was a broken shark tooth but he was in a hurry and barely looked at it. I don’t think it looks like a shark tooth. The first picture shows the sharp edge on the front of the tooth.

It is part of an Ischyrhiza mira (sawfish) rostral tooth.

Keep in mind that these rostral "teeth" are not teeth in the usual sense and are distinctly different from the actual (oral) teeth for this species. Here's a hopefully useful link showing more examples to compare with your find.
