HamptonsDoc
A trailer full of high-end fossils was stolen from GeoDecor at the Denver Show this week. Please keep a look out for them. This is a great family owned and run business.

This is a Ptychodus marginalis, the most complete Ptychodus skeleton ever found anywhere, from the Buda formation in a Uvalde, Texas quarry. The DPS was in talks to get it into the Perot. DPS Ammonite
Here is a link to a news article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/kdvr.com/2019/09/09/trailer-filled-with-fossils-valued-at-more-than-100000-stolen-at-aurora-hotel/amp/ Would it be helpful to have a new subforum to place the lost and stolen reports? Mindat has had one for years. Better visibility of the reports might make it more likely that the items will be recovered and may prevent more thefts. 5 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. I thought the same... or maybe even a thread with pictures of stolen fossils to consolidate everything.

Fossildude19
A sub forum for Stolen Fossils is really beyond the scope of necessity for the Forum. Sub forums are very rarely added, as we have the bases covered pretty well. While theft of fossils happens, it doesn't happen enough to require it's own pinned thread, or sub forum. As long as the words Stolen or theft are in the title, and the tags, it should be easy enough to search for the topics. 6 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Uncle Siphuncle
I'll never understand people unwilling to work or pay for what they want out of life. As for the shark, I knew I'd seen that one before. The DPS asked me for a sizable donation during a crowdfunding effort to obtain the shark for museum donation....but I'll soon be staring down my kid's college tuition, so no magnanimity or largesse from me this round. 3 Grüße, Daniel A. RJB
Holy cow! A trailer of fossils stolen! When I was young dumb and 19 I stole a bunch of stuff. Couldn't sleep for 3 days. I was a mess. Took everything back and faced up to the people I stole from. I remember it being one of the hardest things I had ever done but felt a ton of relief once done. Never stole anything ever again. Thiefs do not have the concience to do that and feel no remorse whatsoever. I truly believe that thieves with a rap sheet should be put to death. Im so sorry for these people at Geo Decor and hope with every fiber of my being that the perps will be caught. RB for dictator!!! RB

Heteromorph
I don’t know if this has already been brought up elsewhere on TFF, but according to Roger Farish at Wednesday night’s DPS meeting, over a week ago the trailer was spotted sitting in the middle of a farmer’s field. When police investigated they found that it was being used to store the thief’s miscellaneous stuff, with all of the intact fossils pushed to the side. I suppose he thought that it would be a great storage trailer, and didn’t pay much mind to the thousands of dollars worth of fossils inside. Roger said that the DPS and Perot museum are now back on track to get the $50,000 raised to buy the Ptychodus marginalis specimen from the dealer and get it into the Perot’s permanent collection for study and display. It is the only known nearly complete Ptychodus. Roger thinks it is from the Eagle Ford, but on geological maps the quarry the specimen came from is shown in the Buda formation.
