Will this Respirator work for acetone?

Hey everyone,

 

Today I am going to be creating vinac with acetone and I was wondering if this type of respirator will work against acetone. It’s a 3M  performance respirator with p100. Thanks!

It does not work to filter fumes, only mists and larger particles.

I think all respirators like the one you are looking at are basically dust filters.  They will not remove gases such as acetone from the air.  When I work with acetone, I do so in a fume hood, but I realize few people will have access to that.  I would suggest you work in an extremely well ventilated area, ideally outdoors, with the air flow carrying the acetone fumes away from you.  It is possible that respirators that pull the air through activated charcoal might help, I don't know for sure about that.  At any rate remember you are looking for a gas mask not a dust mask.

They do make a fume and vapor cartridge for use with this unit but it’s sold separately.
