Fossilized bee hive

Agreed that the photos are not giving a good look at the honeycomb pattern. As honeycombs are not made of materials that will readily fossilize (not hard and solid like bones), we can discount fossilized honeycomb. My bet would be colonial coral if there is evidence of the coral septa (radial lines emanating from the middle of the polyp) or possibly a septarian concretion if this is a purely geological (and not biological) specimen.

Cheers.

This specimen is one of those that I would like to hold in my hand and observe in person. Difficult to make the correct call from what I can see in the photos, even when I magnify them. Looks geological; looks fossil. Too close for me to make the call.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

I don't understand the confusion. I see less than half a dozen shapes that actually look like coral. The rest are every which size, every which shape, and oriented every which direction.
