Split Egg - Real?

Grimmie

Recommended Posts

My uncle lived in Davenport, Iowa. He gave me a bunch of items like this 30 years ago when I was like 9 years old. I do not know where this was found, or if it is real.

Thanks for any insight!

Dan

Oh, it's real alright BOF.  But it isn't an egg.  Rather it is a very nice colorful agate nodule.  Nice piece.

I agree. It’s definitely not an egg, but is a nice geological piece. If you had a means to polish it, I think it would really pop.

Here is a link to a pinned thread we have regarding fossilized eggs and how to tell if you really have one or not.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

This is definitely not an egg.

This does not fit any of the criteria for egg fossil - no shell material, no shell texture, and no egg shape, either oval or spherical.

Please look through our Egg Guides

They were written by a paleontologist who studies fossil eggs.
