diginupbones
Found in North Central Nebraska. Miocene. Not even sure what part of the body this would be from. Thanks

I knew I should have kept digging, there was more with this but it was crumbling away so I stopped. I might have found some teeth a little deeper! diginupbones
Is there any way to narrow down what kind of critter this was by the shape of the ridges? I've looked all over the web and cant find any good info.
Randyw
Too big to be Oreodont. Look for something with about a 16” skull... camel maybe?
diginupbones
What do you guys think of the possibility of this being from a tapir ? I know they have been found in North Central Nebraska but I don’t think they are very common. Out of all the animals that were present in this area, this is the only one that resembles the piece that I have.
diginupbones
I posted this a few weeks ago and a member identified it as a sagittal crest from a mammal. I didn’t get a specific ID so I thought I would change the title and maybe get a few more opinions. The only thing I found online that was even close was a tapir, But I think that would be fairly rare for this area. Found in north central Nebraska sandhills. Fossildude19
Topics merged. Best to keep them together, and bump it up if need be. @Harry Pristis @MarcoSr Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." diginupbones
Agreed, the only reason I didn’t bump up the original post was because I wanted to change the title to include skull and I could no longer edit the post.
ParkerPaleo
I would suggest looking at rhinoceros. Teleoceras or Menoceras maybe. I am having difficulty finding dorsal views of the skulls but look at Ashfall or Agate Fossil Beds.
