You're going to need rehab pretty soon. Nice haul. Whose collection is this? Some of it looks familiar as in "I saw that one in person and held it in my hand" familiar.

I forget the family name, @stats would know.

@Peat Burns Tony- you got a nice piece there.

Also her are some better pictures, the whole piece iridescent (Mother of Pearl look).

Sometimes you can see this Mother-of-pearl-effect on other arthropod shells, e.g. trilobites. With a good SEM you can see a that often a phosphatic upper cuticula is preserved and cause this optical effect. I know somebody who would be very glad to have such piece you have found here...

edit: and again: nice Edrios. :)

Blimey!

I am so green with envy I have turned blue.

i'm very happy that you managed to get those beautiful rare Mazon Creek 'ferns' for your collection.

Still drooling along with half the Forum membership over those edrioasteroids.

I really like the corals and the trilobites too.

And as for those enormous pyritized brachs.

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What great bargains, Ralph.

Congratulations are in order.

I would almost nominate this lot for the Golden Drool Bucket award, if that can apply to a lot instead of one single fossil, and stuff you didn't find yourself, originally.

Dave Bergmann.  Mark, you would know him as he was ESCONI Field Trip Chairman in the 1990s.  He's a great guy, who unfortunately, hasn't been well lately.  Up until about a year ago, he and his wife Sheila were always at the ESCONI general and most study group meetings.

Cheers,

Rich

Here are pictures of things I bought at the sale.  These are all from a quarry in Slyvania, OH.  Silica Shale is the formation and the age is Devonian.

Most of these brachiopods are pyritized to some extent.  The spiferids are fragile, but in very nice condition.

Couple trilobites.  They look like Eldredgops.

I concentrate mostly on Mazon Creek fossils.   These are mostly from Morris, probably Chowder Flatts.  I wasn't collecting when that place was open, so I'm trying to fill in a drawer with material from there.  I have most of the common ones from there now.  Also, I like the odd ball stuff from Mazon... so the Mariopteris, which is rare and the chitinous looking rectangular shape.  I think the later one is animal, but will need someone else to check it out.

Neuropteris vermicularis?

IMG_20191005-141453-2.jpg.3b63789adb572c3750d41b84cea39345.jpg

Annularia.  Need a little cleanup.

Another Neuropteris

IMG_20191005-141530-2.thumb.jpg.c29e8785bc0338ab710c029b6e1827f2.jpg

Mariopteris speciosa, I think.  Fairly rare.

IMG_20191005-141554-2.thumb.jpg.7fef630b26cb10276193148ea3f5cdcd.jpg

Crenulopteris

IMG_20191005-141607-2.thumb.jpg.87804dd085bda4725018ae22dd6fe5d2.jpg

I think this is animal, but not sure.  Up close it looks like chitin.

Love the brachiopods, particularly those winged ones.

They were in the flat with the pyritized brachiopods.  I haven't photographed the other flat of Silica Shale material and the trilobite flat.  I will do that in the next few days.

Yes, I know you like the odd stuff, too.  I guess it's because we have seen so much of the common stuff.  I'm really excited about the Mariopteris.  I've always liked its ornate pinnules.

Rich

I'm never too sure between, Lobatopteris subcrenulata, Crenulopteris acadica, Pecopteris mazonia, Diplazites unita, and Lavienopteris rarinervis.

Cheers,

Rich

I think this might be the best batch yet! Very cool that you could add some new Mazon creek flora too. As others have said, this really did seem like an incredible opportunity to build/expand a collection all at once.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
