Gareth
Hi I would really appreciate some of your opinions on what this fossil is. I found it in my garden when cutting stones to make a pond. All of the boulders came from this area. I have done a little research on the local geology here and it seems the bedrock is from the triassic. many thanks
TqB
There's not a lot of detail but my first guess is that it's a bit of Carboniferous sandstone with part of an orthocone nautiloid - there's plenty of glacial erratic Carboniferous material around, even if it's not that nearby as bedrock. 1 Tarquin
Pemphix
i do not see anything on the photo pointing to orthocone nautiloid. I think it is a piece of plant, eventually missing the coaly coating or some kind of burrow. More pics from the side (end of the fossil) would be helpful for ID.

Gareth
Hi Thanks for taking the time to reply. do you mean the hole in the end is a burrow or the entire object?
