How can a person protect their rock or fossil?

Not really seeing much in the way of fossils here, but for these rocks I think all you'd need to do is wash off the dirt and keep them out of the elements.

I see no need for consolidation.

Agreed, no fossils here. Those rocks will even hold up in the elements for a long time. They look like your typical Glen Rose Formation or Walnut Formation (both are in your area if memory serves) limestone. That stuff is pretty hard.
