I think the grayish parts are real while the brownish red parts are sculptures.

I’m not sure... I think it’s all fake. The air bubbles trapped it it for one thing. I also saw one exactly like it at a rock show over this last weekend that I got to handle that was 100% fake. It was so close they could be twins. Crack for crack.

but I could always be wrong....

Welcome to TFF from Austria!

And thanks for providing really good pics, they help a lot!

You are right, the air bubbles are a dead giveaway that at least something was added.

Here is my uneducated opinion:

- As there is a positive and a negative, one is the mold of the original specimen (negative) and one is the cast of this mold (positive).

- At least one part of the Trilo appears sculpted (lower right of first pic), but this sculpturing was possibly already done on the original specimen.

- A little bit intriguing is the partial flaky appearance of the Trilo, "suggesting" some original shell material. But they may have intentionally put something between the original and the mold and than again between the mold and the cast, to achieve exactly this "shell" effect (the color patterns between positive and negative don´t match up, at least for me :D).

Hope, you didn´t pay too much...

Franz Bernhard

It is amazing how much work goes into making them . Are you going to repaint it or are going highlight  the reconstruction. I think it can still make cool display piece.
