A friend who lives in Moab, gave us some of the fossils she had collected in the area over the years.  She said that she thinks this was found in the Cedar Mountain Formation (early Cretaceous period) - we weren't sure what exactly it was, but noticed what appears to be cell structure so wondered if it was bone.  But if it IS bone, the it must be pretty weathered because it is hard to tell what bone it would be.  This is a rather small piece - around 4-5 inches long by 1 inch high.

Any thoughts?  Thank you!

I think we may need a closer look (larger file). The texture doesn't look quite right for bone to me, but I can't be sure.

I'll try to upload larger files once my daughter leaves for school this morning.  I agree though - the texture seems odd but the "cells" (or the things that look like cells) confused me.
