Seeking fossil ID - found at Rainbow Basin, CA

Recommended Posts

Heather83

Hi friends! I recently went to Rainbow Basin in California. I found this piece of fossilized something.

To me, it looks like a chunk of skin and some fat layer underneath. I’m likely way off but, would love to hear all your thoughts on what this may be.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Fossilized skin is very rare and I've never heard of fat fossilizing. Soft tissures only fossilize in unusual situations.

Looks like a rock, not a fossil.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the others.

I don't see anything fossil related in the item.

Some neat geology, but no fossils.  Sorry.
