Ancient Bones, old bones and husband Dennis, along with Annie the rat terrier were joined by my brother and his wife on a trip to the Carolina coast.

All of the following fossils were beach finds. I am posting for Ancient Bones and myself.

Here are some of our favorite finds.

Hi there... some cool stuff !  I love beach hunts. These two teeth could be Physogaleus contortus ... if they have a twist in the blade. Galeocerdo aduncus have no twist and can look similar.

E-AB-Shark-teeth-ID.jpg.5a2731d79122ed4fb8e99b7f39596de3.jpg.38f0841be39159aa1a2ae008777fb99c.jpg

and the one below is a Tilly bone. In this case a swollen fish vert. You can see the centrum is all that remains that can still be identified.

Thanks, Brett. There is no twist in the blade of the shark teeth, so we have an ID. :)

And the hyperostotic vert is evident now that you point it out as such.

Wow, great finds.  I especially like the salamander vertebra.  You don't see them very often.

Marco Sr.

Thank you Marco Sr. :)  I can't believe that we found so many tiny fossils while beach combing. We are so used to doing micros that we just see them! The salamander is pretty rare for the beach... I don't know how it survived the surf.

You have the best photos and I get a kick out of your persistence and patience .... I know that you have eyes of a hawk to pick out the bones on Edisto and the like ...

Super finds. I especially like the snake and salamander. My wife and I are leaving end of month for NMB for 3 weeks. We wondered how the hunting was there this year. We have previously found GW, burrfish and sea robin skulls but not the variety you have. Could I ask what beach you were hunting? Enjoyed the great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, fossilnut! You will have great weather at that time of the year. We went a bit early this year to coincide with the low tides. Hope you have great luck.
