Vertebrate tail section.  Mesozoic Fossiliferous probably Cretaceous/Jurassic..  Measurements are 6"L x 4"W x 2.5"D, weight is 2.44 pounds.  This fossil was found at a local flea market 15 years ago so, the owner I purchased it from had no additional information to provide.  Is there any way to identify what vertebrate this fossil belongs to?  It has a light coat of "museum wax" to help preserve it.20191021_102609.thumb.jpg.19aac5f6aeccb41abcd38dd5ed326dd1.jpg

Ouch!  What a let down.....  Thank you so much for taking the time to provide the "correct" information.  Fortunately, it was only a $65.00 lesson in not believing item (or seller) descriptions.

Ouch!

That's a tough hit to the wallet for this item. :(

Tim, Thanks for your response and the illustration.  This was one of those early "mid-cycle" collecting purchases that caught my eye - before I began to focus more on Trilobites and teeth.  I still like the fossil, especially the intricate details.  And now I know what it actually is, so that's a positive.  Have to look on the bright side, right.....?

Now trilobite teeth, that would be a specialty collection you won't see much of...if never at all!  :P

LOL....  Yes that would make an extremely difficult collection to assemble.  I enjoy collecting Trilobites as well as Herbivore (and some Carnivore) teeth.
