Complete Crinoid I'd

Bob Saunders

Recommended Posts

I Found this  last week on what I believe some call Michigan mud stone? I do not see visible arms and prefer not to disturb it. I also find no ready history of such finds for this S. W. Michigan County. 2 3/8 in or 62 mm long.

I don't think it is complete.

The left hand side looks like a cross section of a larger crinoid stem on top of the longer, skinnier one.

regarding my second item. I have brought out a crinoid stem. not sure if more is buried by the shell? hoping to find a crinoid arm. 2nd image is a depression with what looks to be pyrite. Can someone I'd what the large piece is at the top with a line along it?

In my opinion, the structure you have exposed may be that of an Goniatite or a planispiral gastropod.   The white bryozoans are lovely though!

As for the crinoid stem, I'm not sure you would find anything more under the shell.

Thank's,for the comments, here is the back side. 4 3/4 x 4 1/4 1 18-/8th thick. 11.8 cm x 3 cm. I see some sites call it a death assemblage. not a fossil hash plate around here. been using a spear shaped X-Acto knife dental tools and a special fiber glass brush.
