Some of my megs

I have acquired a very small collection of Meg Teeth over the years.  Nothing fantastic collection wise.  I feel I have managed to acquire a nice tooth or 2 with some that are probably fairly common.

1st one I will post is the 1st bone valley meg I ever acquired. It's small but the color is striking to me.  No point and the serrations are worn, but it always catches the eye.

I'll post the others when I get a chance.  The others I have with me are currently in a very poor attempt at Maui's necklace for Halloween/trunk or treat.

Very nice! I really like the big one, both in shape and color. Hoping to get something similar myself one day, I've always loved sharks!

I'll post some better pics of them after they are off the necklace.

I have a bigger one but it hasn't been unpacked from move yet.  The big one was actually cheaper than some of the others.  It is L1 5.91" but Bill polished it up so it isn't collectible.  But it does have some amazing colors.  He doesn't have too many with red color to them.

Polished can be pretty too. I agree they lose the collector's item quality but that doesn't mean they can't still be beautiful. And very i terested in seeing the red color!

Here is my 6 incher. It has a little peel, but the serrations and tip are perfect and the peel made it affordable.

This is the closest I have to a true red tooth.  All of mine have been purchased but who knows some day I might make it over to florida to hunt one.  I have some amonites and plenty of seashells I have found here in Texas.

One last pic with the 6 incher in front of a jaw from a bull shark I caught in Veracruz  20 plus years ago.

You have some beauties.  Thanks for sharing.

I have been tempted by Megs in the past. At one point, when I had $$$, I collected a few colorful , smaller Megs, mixing them in with the mostly smaller darker Megs I was finding.

Now they sit in a display case, collecting dust... except for rare times I pull them out and recall why I got them. This one from the Meherrin River in Virginia.

I really like the ones with a lighter root and dark enamel. The contrast is really pretty. And those red ones! Both yours, Kingcobb, and Shellseeker's. Wonderful colors! This does not help my drooling after a meg of my own!

The lighter root ones tend to come from Bone Valley but some might come from Lee Creek in Florida as well.  Small teeth such as those are pretty cheap to get if you look hard enough.  They get pricey when you get up above 3 inches, but those were dirt cheap.

Mostly true.  "Lee Creek" is not in Florida.

I hunt the Peace River,  and VERY rarely, I find a Meg that seems to have recently left the bank. It has a white root, usually blue blade, that could not survive in the tannic water.  The Peace River does run thru Bone Valley.

I agree that under 2 inch Megs from bone valley USED to be cheap. The prices have been increasing.

I had always assumed lee creek was in florida.  Guess not.

You can find bone valley teeth 2 inches or so in length for 30 bucks online.  Go the auction route and get em even less.

Thanks,

I live in Lee County , Florida. The only Lee Creek, I can find in Florida runs under a bridge on Bayshore road about 5 miles from my house.  I may check it out.

The most famous "Lee Creek"  is

The Lee Creek Mine (formally PotashCorp-Aurora, currently Nutrien) located in Aurora, NC is one of the most important scientific localities in the world for Miocene and Pliocene fossils that have been studied extensively by the Smithsonian Institution for over 40 years. The Lee Creek Mine holds a place of honor among all of the premiere fossil sites on the planet, and the number of important finds from this locality is countless.

Never have been there, but I always thought there was a "creek" of moving water associated with "Lee Creek Mine".  Maybe some of our members from North Caroline can comment.

Here is one more Bone Valley tooth.  It is a bit larger at 3 inches.  My 7 year old daughter has claimed it so it resides in her room.
