Is this petrified wood

I found this is there anyway this is petrified wood.

It has just a slight smidgen of way, maybe ? 

Somehow I doubt it though.

I was studying the rock and noticed it had a smell like tar, is there anyway that fossilized tar could have a smell, and is there anyway this could be a piece of fossilized tar and wood. This can also explain the black color of the wood like object.

You might try heating a pin or nail and touching it to it to see if it melts like tar or burns like lignite, a form of coal which retains the general structure of wood.
