BIEN12
Went Canoeing with a friend of mine this weekend and came across of the following on a sandbar. Any idea on what we found? PaleoNoel
The jaw looks like bison or cow, the other piece looks like bone, maybe mosasaur.
garyc
I agree with cow/bison jaw, but the smaller piece could be the base of an antler maybe. Where in Texas we’re they found? The answer may eliminate the possibility of mosasaur
Rockwood
I don't think that's an antler.

I agree, I don't see any of the common features I would associate with one, like the bumps along the base or the transitional part where it attaches to the skull.

JohnJ
The second piece looks more like a proximal metapodial. 1 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ

BIEN12
Both were found in Robertson County. I am second guessing myself about the Bison/Cow Jaw is even being a fossil. The Blue tint in the teeth lead me to believe it was but now i am not sure anymore. Thoughts?
Rockwood
A good start would be to lightly tap the jaw with something like a spoon. A mineralized fossil will have a high pitched sound. A modern bone will have more of a low tunk sound. The test is just one thing to consider though.
fifbrindacier
Try to burn a little surface of the bone, if it smells, this is not fossil.
