Found this specimen in Orange County, California, ...  and would like to know whether it is petrified bone, wood, or something else.  Thanks.

Hi, I agree that this appears to be bone.  Unfortunately, the weathering of this item appears severe, making it hard to pick out any distinguishing characteristics that would help come to an ID.

Thank you for the confirmation. Unfortunate about the weathering though. About how old if you had to guess?

Geologic Units in Orange County, California.

According to the link above,  could be anywhere from Jurassic to Paleocene.  Probably from later, however. Looks like mammal bone, to me.

The exact location of the find is composed primarily of marine sandstone and sedimentary rocks from the Miocene. What about it strikes you as mammal? I am still learning a lot about this stuff, so would appreciate any insight. Thanks

Just looks similar to a lot of mammal bone I have seen on here.
