Peace river.. am i collecting rocks?

Found this sifting the river and trying not to keep everything.  So whats that TIA

Dugong bone end, actually. Plenty of those in the River though!

Curious, Finlover... Dugong ribs are very likely the most common fossils found in the Peace River (2nd behind shark teeth).  But you do not see them in South Carolina....

No...lots of whale rib bones here instead.  Thanks for the correction @Meganeura and @Shellseeker!

i have knowingly passed on plenty of dugong however i will be setting this piece aside...

Yeah I collected a drawer full when I first started… now I’ll only keep it if it’s a very very complete rib. Which I haven’t yet found.

There are definitely dugong bones in SC. I collect enough on the most recent trip to make a wind chime out of them.

You're right @debivort, the ones in SC that I am thinking of are dugong, not whale.  I need to just stop responding to this thread, since I have been wrong every time I've opened my mouth.  :heartylaugh:
