Rainbasin
This is the best find for me to date! I believe it is an equus and I found it in the Platte River in central Nebraska. I found a single tooth first and it looks like it came from the jaws. One question I have....is there anything I should do with this when it dries out? I want to be able to display it in my home. Thank you!
Fossildude19
Looks horsey to me. Wait for other opinions, though. 1
digit
Yup. Most definitely. Can you tell if it is still bone (relatively modern) or is it heavy and mineralized. Hard to really see from photos but it looks to be modern. You'll definitely want to sanitize this a bit before bringing it into the house. I'd assume similar protocol to that used for sea shells--some diluted bleach in water or possibly some hydrogen peroxide. Some others here on the forum may well have cleaned bones to display inside and may have more experience and useful methods for minimizing any stink issues. @Uncle Siphuncle ? Cheers. -Ken

Brandy Cole
@Rainbasin Thanks for sharing your find. Even if it's not as old as you'd hoped, it still adds to your own knowledge and the knowledge of others on the forum.
