I found this also today, Sunday, which is a

a bone fragment to a large mammal, I think. Probably won't know what it came from... I was curious if anyone might know the bone? It is a fragment but it is divided down the middle on the inside of the bone. The outside is pretty worn.  I don't think it's a leg bone....Don't think skull. But I'm not sure at all about it and could be wrong about those. Thanks for your thoughts.  Found on a river gravel bank.

Hi,

I do not know what this is, but I think the symmetry points toward midline of the body. quite big for a vertebra, so maybe it is a skull element after all?

I could imagine those grooves, if that is the right word holding tusks, but that may be wishful thinking by proxy ;)

Curious to hear more.

Best Regards,

J

Here is a mammoth scapula from Sketchfab. Both ends.

I think a scapula to something big is right. I'd think if it were skull it would have large foramen like the other post I recently had.

Now that you say it, I join camp scapula.

the division down the middle is an artefact of erosion that had me fooled.

Best Regards,

J
