I definitely don't want to incorrectly ID something in the CRM.  This one has been questioned, so I'd love your thoughts!

It feels solidly like a I retroflexus to me, but I was previously unaware just how close C cuspidata could come to this look.

Just curious if anyone else has an opinion on this tooth.  I emailed the SC state museum curator and author of several papers on Oligocene fossils in the area, but I don't think I'll hear back for a few days.  Any opinions are welcomed.  Thank you so much!

 

Edit: Oligocene - Pleistocene is present at this location near Summerville, SC.

For anyone who is interested in the outcome of this, the state museum curator (and author of several papers) agrees with I. retroflexus and said that the crenulated cutting edges on the shoulders are consistent with this species.
