Hi there,

I have just found stored away these two fosils that I bought as a youngster many moons ago and am hoping you may be able to help me identify thier authenticity or otherwise and perhaps ID them also. I assume the fish either is or is supposed to be from the green river formation, but beyond that I am lost...

Any info would be much appreciated

Ta,

Dave

The second piece is manganese dendrites, a process of mineralization.

Looks more like those Liaoning fish.

The fish is likely a Lycoptera davidi from Liaoning, China.  The dendrites are on a rock matrix that could well be from Solnhofen, Germany.

Thanks so much for the comments. All makes sense...

Is the concensus that the fish is real and unaltered then. That's nice news if so.

The dendrites makes so much more sense looking closely. I just couldn't make the image make sense as plant life....

Thanks again!

@David K

Agree, looks like a Lycoptera fish.

Quite common. Seldom faked though one often sees them with body outline and fins painted in

Interesting info on dendrites on this thread
