Shellseeker
Combined hunting trip and Fossil ID for a unique bone. I went to a Peace River location we have hunted extensively in past years. I always believe what I preach ... Dig deeper, if you are not finding fossils, move frequently and ,,,, dig deeper. I started the day with a Hubbell Meg (42 mm Slant).. the rest of the day was gravy. My friend found 3 horse teeth, 3 Megs, a small complete Ray mouth plate, a perfect 40 mm upper Hemi and many more small teeth than I did... We were digging 5-10 feet apart. My finds: A better look at what I think is a Hubbell Meg.. My definition is pretty simple 1) size 40-45 mm 2) outward bulge on the blade.. I like this Equus Tooth... It is short only 44 mm in Height, which means an older horse and is in great shape. So a Meg and an Equus tooth.. That is what I mean by MioPleistocene. So here is a twisted and flat bone... for the Fossil ID...
SawTooth
That frag in the top right corner of the first pic had me confused until I realized it was a tiger fragment!
Shellseeker
@SawTooth @Family Fun Your interest brought me back this morning... and I thought about this "twisted bone" This is NOT a mammal bone, more reptile like, Only a few real possibilities here in Florida, Turtle and Gator... @digit or @Plantguy can help me on any others.... So I started searching, looking at images on this forum with a google search "sea turtle bones site:www.thefossilforum.com" Lo and behold !! right at the top , a member from Connecticut had identified my twisted bone back in 2017... thank you Tim.. @Fossildude19 upper right... 1 3

Frightmares
My first thought was turtle, as well.

Sea Turtle from Bone Valley would be wonderful. a rare find or maybe hunters just do not recognize what the fossil may be. I came close to tossing this bone. It is certainly a possibility but I am not sure... I am wondering about Giant Tortoise. If there are other possibilities, I am hoping that other TFF member will comment. The photo I posted was created dissecting a modern Ridley's sea turtle. Figuring out the fossil turtle may be a problem. Not every Ulna on Fossilized sea turtle I can find on the internet looks exactly the same... Here is one from the University of Florida Collection... My partial is almost the same size as the complete bone. 1
Plantguy
Hey Jack, really nice finds! the hubbell brought a smile to my face--v cool! I'm not much help on this bone I'm afraid--Not have enough experience with limb elements. I thought reptilian when I first saw it but I defer to others as to whether its an ulna or something else--think your case is strong but with its fragmentary nature I'm not sure. Hoping someone can verify your case/hunch for sure. Continued hunting success! Be safe with this weather coming!! Regards, Chris Thanks Chris , I copied you and Ken, in case your turtle knowledge included Sea Turtle flipper bones.. Right now, I am trying, without much luck , to wrangle a hunting trip before Friday.... Hurricane Idalia is coming thru the gap between Cuba and Mexica and they say will likely landfall Tampa or Above.. I have heard that story before. Initial bands of rain are hitting Naples now, Cat 3, 4 foot storm surge....

Somewhat similar to your find at Holden Beach Looks extremely similar. Still no id on it though. The bone looks whole to me. People have said though that it's not whole enough to id. It's not broken anywhere. I feel like if it was missing a peice you'd be able to tell that. Though I'm not expert by any means. Whatsoever. We are going to do this thing in a few months. Where for 300$ you call and make an appointment. you bring in your entire fossil collection. Well anything you'd like an id on. They sit with you for 2 hours and id everything you brought. If more time is needed you can have it. It unfortunately costs extra. Which I guess is definitely understandable. It sounds like my dream date. It's something I've been dying to do for awhile now. Thanks again for your help!!
