Event created by Lyme Regis Fossil Festival
The Lyme Regis Fossil Festival takes place 29 April - 1 May. In addition to a huge free Grand Marquee on the beach (35 scientists from the Natural History Museum, plus other organisations and institutions - open 10am - 5pm each day), there are guided fossil walks, 18 great fossil and natural history talks and a Fossil Fair (29 April - 2 May). Loads of hands-on art and science for the whole family, and you can visit the National Oceanography Centre's RV Callista too, moored in Cobb Harbour.
Speakers for the Fossil Talks include the NHM's Chris Stringer, Andy Fleet, Martin Munt, Jerry ######, and Phil Rainbow, Portsmouth Uni's David Martill, British Antarctic Survey's Hilary Blagborough, National Oceanography Centre's Simon Boxall, National Museum of Wales's Tom Sharpe, Plymouth Marine Institute's Sarah Gall, Sir Crispin Tickell, Bristol Dinosaur Project's Ed Drewitt, freelance fossil preparator Scott Moore-Fay (former NHM), UCL's Jeremy Young, Jurassic Coast's Richard Edmonds, Royal Holloway's Sam Bennett, and University of Bristol's Mike Benton. Talks are £1.
Details of the talks are here: http://www.fossilfestival.com/programme/home/talks
There are also some fossil talks at the Lyme Regis Museum, from Chris Andrew, Stephen Locke, Chris Paul and Tom Sharpe.
