Most of what I read says that the Outer Banks of North Carolina are slim pickings for fossils. I disagree. The fossils out there are, by and large, not very old, but they look like that lived yesterday. In fact, it is impossible to tell some of the old shells from the fresh ones unless they are still attached to some matrix.
