    Venice Diving Trip 4/16

Hey guys! I had a phenomenal day diving for teeth last weekend in Venice. I found around 1,500 teeth and some other awesome stuff. Here is a pile of broken/not "high" quality small teeth that i found Here is the pile of teeth that are full and/or super high quality. Here are the tigers that I found. I don't usually find a lot of tiger shark teeth so it was nice finding this many and of this size! Here are all of the Makos that I found. The one in the middle is my biggest Mako at 2.3" and I also found some super pretty smaller ones! Here are all of the Megs that I found. I found my biggest Meg at 4.75" and I couldn't be happier!!! The smaller Megs have a lot of super nice colors and I am super happy that I found them. And the find of the day would be my FIRST GREAT WHITE!! I have been looking for my first GW for over a year now and I finally found it. I think you would have been able to hear me on the surface because of how much I was freaking out when I found it. What I do not have pictured is I found my largest alligator tooth measuring in just under 1" and I also found my first Gar scale (I think thats what it is). I found four pathological teeth. Two of them were bull shark teeth that had double tips. The double tips were very small and I couldn't get a good picture of them. One was a bull shark tooth that had waves in the blade. The last one was a lemon shark that has a twisted blade. If their are any specific teeth you want better pictures of or you have any questions just let me know! This was definitely a trip for the books and I cant wait to get out there again.

    Venice Diving Trip 2/25

Hello everyone! I headed down to Venice, Florida to go diving for the day. We ended up doing really good and it was definitely worth the trip. We did three dives and i ended up with a good amount of megs/makos/himis, a few hundred small teeth, a piece of mammoth tooth, two whale ears, a whale vert, and an alligator scoot . I also got a piece of tusk that is about 3" diameter and 12" long. It is not pictured here because it is super fragile and some has already fallen off. It's currently soaking in fresh water and once it is done I will update with some photos. The largest meg is measuring in at just over 4.5" and it one of the highest quality ones that I have found to date. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to see better photos of!!

    Florida scuba find-Large bone

Found in the peace river. Larger bone and looks to be a socket bone. Any idea? It’s broken but much of it remains
  4. I got to do my first Meg Ledge trip yesterday. The weather was nasty on the “offshore” ledge, so we hit the “inshore” one. So ~25 miles out instead of ~40. All three dives were at ~100’. The attached pictures contain the haul from my final dive of the day. Almost got a 6” tooth. I’m curious to see how they look after they’ve been cleaned up.
  5. My friend and I did about 4 tanks each over the weekend in the Santa Fe above the 41 bridge and the Suwannee downstream of Mayo. I did miss one box of fossils for the pic, but judging by the slim pickings and seeing one guy on a hooka rig on the same spot for 6 hours, I'd say these areas have had too much hunting pressure. The more interesting pieces... A large hunk of mega fauna (giant sloth?) A piece of chert with econoids Half a Herty cup Doll head A large fish vert (sturgeon?) And for the detailed picture of the fossil that somewhat resembles a tooth, I have no idea at all! The surface texture doesn't match what I've seen on mammal teeth before.

    St. Marys river 11-11-18

Did some blackwater diving in the St. Marys river this past weekend. The biggest Meg tooth was a hair under 6” and also found a nice little benedini!
  7. Me and my wifes first trip to the meg ledge we pulled up 20 teeth! Between the 7 of us on the boat we pulled up over 100 teeth
  8. Went on a meg tooth dive trip and found these fossils as well! Was wondering if anyone could help my out with a ID.

    Feb Cooper River Diving

Got to spend another weekend diving the Cooper River in South Carolina with Alan Devier. If you dive the Cooper or want to dive the Cooper, Alan is the guy to go with. He is a class act. Found a bunch of good teeth and was an all around good time.

    New from Florida

Hey all! I've been doing this about a year and I have been very busy since moving down here to Florida, spending a lot of time in the river and beach. I'm trying to catalogue everything now, and there are SO many I was hoping to ask about in the Fossil ID section, not being able to find much information, and you are all so knowledgeable I hope to gain some skills with my own identification process. I think I've pretty much gotten all the shark's teeth down, so it's mostly reptile and mammal bones and fossils I'd be posting. What's the best way to go about featuring many photos in a thread? Attachments or...? Hope to have a lot of interesting stuff to show! (The pic is my best meg, found around Veteran's Park in Arcadia.)
  11. Hey everyone, I'm new to this but I was hoping to get your help with an ID for this fossil.. I found it and several neat things diving the Edisto River in SC this past weekend. Let me know if you need any better pics. Thanks - Kniero
  12. I am cleaning/sorting last seasons finds. I went to my local fossil club last night and a friend was showing off a couple of boxes!!! of Megs, GWs, Makos, Hemis, Whale teeth, etc that he found last week. I am a sucker for color and took these photos of a Meg. There were likely 15-20 teeth that had this color combo, which I thought unusual for the Atlantic Ocean. Note the benedini in the background. As I consider this, maybe he said "Four or Five" and I was concentrating on the Teeth and "heard" Fortyfive. I have gone out 15 miles and that is quite a distance in a boat.
  13. My brother and I are headed down to bowling Green to stay in the very best western. (Hot tub) we are driving down today to hunt tomorrow and thanksgiving. I see that we are going to have some serious rain on wed. And I am wondering if anyone could tell me roughly how much I can expect the river to rise based on an inch of rain... we plan to go back into Charlie creek. we both have full hooded 8mm semi dry suits and are not too worried about getting cold just trying to figure out how much I can expect to see the river rise while I'm there.. i am trying out a couple of dive lights my friend gave me. Hope they help. We have only been down to the peace a total of four times and have done well each trip. Fingers crossed...our family does thanksgiving on Friday due to work schedules of the fam. So hopefully we will be back to hunt sat and Sunday too. Anyone who has a kayak and a suit are more than welcome to join us we are going to the canoe outpost in Gardner at 7:30 tomorrow morning. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also if any members ever make it to Jacksonville I would love to show off some great spots on the saint Johns river and on some spoil piles. Happy hunting to all.

Whale Atlas (?) & Shark Teeth

Just finished some diving off the SE coast of NC in 85-95 feet of water on a limestone ledge popular with shark teeth hunters. I've attached some of my finds, and would be grateful for any feedback on anything that is noteworthy (still fairly new to this!). I also found what I believe is a whale atlas vertebra (not complete), as the area we find the teeth in has a lot of whale bone fragments also. Thus, could someone try and positively identify this? Measures approximately 10 x 7 x 3 inches. Also, is there anywhere I could get some of the more damaged teeth and the whale vertebra restored? And what might the cost run to? Duncan.

    River Finds From February

Here are a few of the fossils I found in February. The meg measures about 5 3/4" and weighs a little over a pound while the ray plate almost 4" across the widest point. I was working my way up the river in a crazy rocky place and all of a sudden in the open was this tooth. The serration are pretty good considering the beat up display side of the tooth. I suspect that though the meg may not have rolled or moved much, a bunch of rocks have moved over it before I got there. And then there are some colorful makos. The bottom right mako is almost shaped like a planus, though I would guess it is a retroflexus. I had a few other finds, but these are a few of the more interesting ones. Water temperatures have been cool, but it is amazing how laying eyes on a tooth can warm you up a bit. I get to put the boat back in the shop tomorrow for what might be some expensive repairs, so not sure when I will be getting back in. Jason
  16. Hey fellow fossil enthusiast. I will be uploading another video sometime this week, but want to show some screen shots to wet the whistle. In addition to a bunch of fossils, I ran into some mostly friendly sea life. The water was a bit chilly, but the horseshoe crab pair didn't seem to mind . Jason

    Fossiling Sc Locations

Found some baby teeth while scuba fossiling last weekend. Plans to go hunting again mid and late June. The guy next to me found a killer Angy. He swears it is a Ric. Have information on a couple of potentially good land site locations. Willing to trade for detailed info on other Charleston SC/Summerville/Cottageville land sites. Yet to be cleaned baby teeth Angy or Ric?
