  1. Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows about the laws regarding purchase of dinosaur fossils from Morocco, Niger or other African locations. It seems that they could be legally prohibited but these are some of the most common locations I see fossils for sale from. Also many places selling them are large legit companies that say they were legally collected. I have read that it sounds like Morocco does have ability to export but only with certain registered dealers but I’m not sure. I was wondering this because I would like to add fossils from some of these dinosaurs to my collection but I don’t want to do anything sketchy. Thanks in advance for any info on this!
  2. With the recent marktet and the introduction of Suchomimus tenerensis teeth, i was wondering what are your biggest and best Suchomimus teeth from there? I currently own a serrated and partially rooted tooth that is close to 3.5 inches. But show me all of yours!

    Morocco 2023 Geology Trip

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Morocco last year in May and tour the wonderful geology of the country. This will be a very short recap of the experience because frankly there are just too many things to share. For starters, the culture is fantastic. Morocco consists primarily of the Berber people and they are some of the friendliest people I've encountered. Very welcoming and ready to share some tea with you. Tea is by far the most common thing you will drink in country. I'm quite certain there were days that I had tea at least 8 separate times, and the tea was fantastic. If you've never had Moroccan tea then you are missing out (the mint tea in particular is wonderful). The cuisine is beyond amazing, and there honestly wasn't anything in country that I didn't like. Trying to replicate some of the foods has been a challenge (my tagine is getting close), but I suppose that just means I'll need to return some day. The country is also very safe throughout. As a solo female traveler, I felt comfortable at all times and was not concerned. However you should know that few people speak English. The most common languages people know are Arabic, French, and Berber, so there was some language barrier but as with most things, it was doable. My arrival to Morocco began in Marrakech where I was met by my guide who drove me out of the city, through the Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass at 2200m in elevation. Eventually we made our way to Tamdahkte and I stayed at a wonderful riad that was (as I would come to find out) quite open air just as most riads and buildings are in Morocco. On the way we stopped at a salt mine and walked through.

    Ankylosaur from Niger?

A collector is selling some of his collection and one of the pieces I am interested in one of these two Ankylosaur specimens labeled from Cretaceous Niger. However to my understanding the only Ankylosaur described from Africa is from the Middle Jurassic in Morocco. Are these from sm Ankylosaur at least even if local can't 109% be verified? @jpc @hadrosauridae
  5. Hi guys, I bring you this new topic regarding this 8cm Spinosaurus sp. claw. Do you think it's real or fare? I rely on you who are certainly more prepared than me ahahahahah. Thank you very much!

    Megalosaur?

Howdy all, I'm interested in this tooth which has the ID of "Afrovenator abakensis," though the seller makes sure to note that this is not a concrete ID. I'm curious as to how I'd be able to identify this as a megalosaur and possibly an afrovenator. Locality is Nafanfo, Agadez, Niger.

    Jobaria tooth from Niger

Hello together, Munich Show is over and I’ve made some purchases I would like to have your expertise on… This tooth was labeled as “sauropod” from the Tiouraren Ffm, Agadez, Niger. As far as I was able to figure out the only sauropod found there was Jobaria, or am I wrong? Which would let me label it at least “Macronaria indet.” or even “Jobaria”? I am looking forward to your thoughts. :-)

    Kem Kem Beds Vertebra (Spinosaurid?)

Currently working on cataloging my fossil collection as best as I can, and am uncertain on this one. I don’t doubt the authenticity of the fossil itself or stated region based on other examples, but the “Spinosaurus sp.” given by the plate it came with feels awful presumptuous, so I’ve currently settled on a sweeping “Spinosauridae” classification. Does anything about this point to something more specific, or something more vague? Can provide more/better images if needed.

Indeterminate claw from Morocco, Kem Kem.

Hi guys, these days i was given this claw coming from kem kem as a birthday gift. This fossil was sold as a theropod claw, but it looks anything but to me. I assumed it could belong either to a sauropod cub or to a strange lizard not yet described. What do you think? THANKS XD
  11. Hello I recently bought and fossil on online auction site the person said it was a saber cat tooth found in Africa.and I was wondering if it is and what species it is.
  12. Hi everyone! I have my eye on something kinda interesting, a sabre-tooth cat tooth! Or at least that what the seller claims these are. They look to be incisors of some sort of large hairy beast I would have wanted to avoid so I am kinda curious if anyone recognizes the morphology. No info beyond "Pleistocene of Africa" unfortunately. First one is about 2.25 inches (so probably about 5.5 cm) and the second is about 2.5 inches (about 6.25 cm). Thoughts anyone?
  13. My mammal experts out there, I wanted to know if you think this tooth is Pleistocene or modern? Unfortunately, I don’t have much information about it and I don’t have a ton of knowledge on mammal material in general. Description saber cat or feline tooth. Pleistocene The Dabou Caves, Ivory Coast, Africa please lmk

    ID claw from Niger (Gadoufaoua)

Hope someone can ID this claw from Niger. The seller says it was found in Gadoufaoua (Elrhaz Formation). But fossils often mix by the diggers. I don't know if the information is correct. It would be helpfull if someone can tell if its sauropod (as the seller claims) or if the fossil claw is theropod. Thanks for the help!

    Identification of Abelisaurid

I got this on online auction site few days ago, yet to arrive. The seller told me he got this from a dealer in Madagascar. Is this from Madagascar? Or is it from Kem Kem bed and the seller is just lying? He has better reviews in online auction site but he described the tooth as Carcharodontosaurus
  18. The Kem Kem Beds are full of poorly understood Dinosaurs but the isolated material that wind up in collections are beautiful. The Beds consist of three formations: Ifezouane, Aoufous and Akrabou. I believe the first one is your primary Dinosaur producing layer in the Cenomanian age. The teeth that we see bombarding us at shows and online give us clues to the spectacular dinosaurs that roamed that region. Claws give us another perspective and by associating them to other regions we obtain more hints of what they looked like. A Dinosaur that no one needs introduction is Spinosaurus. I happen to have a beautiful hand and two foot claws. A small hand claw also appears to be that of an infant Spinosaurs or another related species. Large theropod claw 5 " currently indeterminate

    Modern or fossil cat canine?

This is described as a feline canine from the Pleistocene of Africa, 7cm long. Does that seem reasonable or does the fossil seem modern? And if it's a fossil, can anyone identify what animal it came from? Thanks.
  20. Good day, Please could someone help with identifying this item, it was found on a beach in South Africa about 15+ years ago Dimensions: 6cm x 4cm x 4cm Any help would be appreciated.
  21. Trying to see if there are any good fossil hunting locales for my brother(Dakar) and my sister(Jacksonville). I know of the Peace River in Florida. But I was wondering if maybe the beaches in these areas or anywhere close(within an hour or so) might be hotspots to check out. Thanks for the help!

    Mosasaur tooth crowns ID

Hello, Thanks so much everyone @Troodon @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon @Praefectus for your help with the mosasaur jaws last time. I was wondering if you could help ID the following teeth crowns? They're said to be from the Atlas mountains of northern Africa. I feel like there's quite some variation but I can't tell if that's just due to heterodonty or a difference in genus/species. Or perhaps as I found out last time, some of these are "throat teeth"? Lot 1. Lot 2. Lot 3. Thank you!
  23. 3 Sarcosuchus teeth with a Certificate. Formation: Erlhaz Fm. Location: Tenere-Woestijn, Niger. Biggest is 3,2 cm Looking for a Megalodon or Mastodon tooth.
