    Coral or not coral ?

I wondered what could be that little one (about 1 cm), i found last year in the Bathonian of Normandy. A coral, maybe a sponge ? I've took the best photos i could.

    Coral os sponge

Dear friends, I was in a Bathonian area (Dhruma formation) to the north of Riyadh city, it was a surface find, small 2cm X 3cm .what could it be? Is it a coral or a sponge?

    Bathonian Luc-sur-Mer

Hi, i recently went in Normandy and on the site of Luc-sur-Mer, i found those items and wonder what they really are. Their size is between two and three centimeters. 1 2 3 i think this one is a coral.

    Spinostropheus tooth?

Here is a 3.5 cm long tooth from the tiouraren formation, tiouraren hill, Tenere desert, Niger. It was listed as a possible spinostropheus tooth. What do people here think? @Troodon

    Bathonian Coral?

Hello all I found these a couple of months ago during some hunts in the Bathonian of Northern France. They are like little round buttons. This is the only one that has decent, clear quality, most of them look like little pebbles. They are all like 1-2 cm in size and found in marine deposits together with gastropod steinkerns and bivalves. Any idea what these could be? Kind regards Thijs
  7. Rutland, Blisworth Limestone, Jurassic, Bathonian In the same matrix as I extracted the previous tooth I found this minute thing. It has similar preservation and colouration as the tooth, including what looks like enamel. I spotted it glinting. Is this a palatal tooth? I was wondering if it might be Asteracanthus. A really really tiny Asteracanthus.

    Bathonian - bone fragment?

Rutland, Blisworth Limestone, Jurassic, Bathonian This is very hard to take a photo of. I think it might be a bone fragment, but I'm not sure what would be this small, and not convinced it isn't something else entirely.
  9. Ossicle

    Bathonian fossil - tooth?

Rutland, Blisworth Limestone, Jurassic, Bathonian This little fossil looks like it has striations, is it a tooth? I thought it could also be a fragment of shell, although the preservation would be quite different from the other shells I found, and it looks like it has enamel. Scale is in mm. The teeth I was looking for are quite different from this. I'm wary of prepping it yet, I'm not used to prepping limestone and am practicing on larger, less fragile fossils.

    ID Bathonian theropoda

Hello everyone, (I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I'm missing something important). I've recentenly saw a theropod tooth listed for sale. This tooth was described as being found in the Bathonian section of the El Mers group, and is described as an Megalosaurid. I've tried to read upon some information, but i've come to notice that there is very little avaliable. I saw a post on this forum saying that theropod teeth from El Mers are still under debate, and that teeth from the Bathonian section require the gypsum matrix to be present in order to identify it as being Bathonian. I was wondering if this fossil fits the profile of being from the Bathonian section and could be a Megalosaursid, or i this is almost impossible to tell. The pictures of the tooth are not quite as clear as I would like, but i hope it will suffice. Thanks in Advance. Details of this tooth: Size: 2x3 x5,5 cm from Morocco El Mers group, Bathionian/ Callovian

    bathonian watton cliff hybodont

hi guys, i was hoping you could help me with this i am quite unused to hybodonts so i would really appreciate help, so far i believe it is Planohybodus grossiconus due to the striations being very short and only at the base of the tooth, here is a paper that describes bathonian hybodonts where i got my info from bathonian hybodonts thanks

    Watton Cliff Microfossil ID?

In October 2020 I went to Watton Cliff for my first foray into microfossil hunting. I have since dissolved some of the matrix I collected in 20% acetic acid and one of the things I found, amongst all of the crinoid pieces is this. I'm not sure what it is but I'm guessing it's part of a fish. Are the rings visible on the reverse side annual growth rings? The sample I collected from Watton Cliff is from a loose sandy layer within the Forest Marble and is Bathonian in age. Thanks for giving it a look, as I sort and take more pictures I may post more of what I've found. There is so much crinoid material its difficult to separate it all from the sand. Benton

    Scute?

Hello everyone, Here is a fossil I found earlier which I think is a scute. Am I right? If so, what did it belong to? It was found in the forest marble formation of Dorset, England and is bathonian, Jurassic in age. It measures 2 by 1 cm. in the last photo, it is the bottom right. Also does anyone know what the fish tooth belonged to. (Middle bottom). thanks in advance

    Hybodontid shark teeth

Hello everyone I found these shark teeth a while ago in Dorset and I remember posting them on the forum after I’d just broken them into pieces . I’ve since, glued them together but am not sure of the species. They were found in the bathonian of the forest marble formation and the larger one measures 15mm while the smaller one measures 5mm. I’m really sorry for the bad photos but it’s the best I could get. I think the larger one is asteracanthus sp. but I’m totally in the dark with the smaller one. Does anyone know what species they are? thanks in advance
  19. From the album: Middle Jurassic Ammonites from Southern Germany

33cm. This one was in several pieces and was missing part of the keel, so I had a bit of glueing, modelling and painting to do on it. retrocostatum zone Late Bathonian Found near Blumberg, SW Germany
  20. I'm almost done with prepping this huge Procerites on commission and I figured I'd just show this as an example of how long it sometimes takes to get one of these whoppers finished. It has a diameter of 35cm. (14 inches). I've already been working almost 17 hours on it and still have some filling and modelling to do. This came to me in 2 pieces which had been removed from 2 neighboring blocks with a thin layer of calcite which had seeped into the tectonic spalt between the two. There was also a small piece of the puzzle missing which couldn't be extracted, which is why I still have some modelling ahead of me. I had worked almost 4 hours removing matrix from the larger piece with the rough stylus before I took the first photo. Then I started abrading. The matrix was pretty tough, so I was blowing up to 80psi. And to make things more complicated, it was covered with tightly sitting epizoans, particularly oysters, which loved to colonize these things after they had hit the dust, so I had to spend some extra time blasting the parts away which I couldn't remove with the stylus, otherwise the ammonite shell would have been damaged. Next photo after another 2 hours or so. Another hour and a half with the abrader: And yet another hour and a half. I had to do some more stylus work around the back here as well. And finally another 2 hours to get it more or less done. So now we're already up to 11 hours.
