New to Florida and found some interesting fragments wash up on the beaches between St. Augustine and Vilano. Found this today. Any ideas? Almost appears to be a stem or reed with a cocoon shaped feature on the interior. Thanks

Is it a fossilized claw/claw core? If yes, is it possible to ID the species?

Hello to all, I encountered this piece among a gravel bed at low tide on a beach along the West coast of South Africa, close to Cape Town. A location where fossilized shark teeth, marine mammal bones and vertebrae from the Miocene are found alongside Pleistocene fossils like horse teeth and mammoth tooth fragments. Unfortunately, this piece is not very well preserved owing to the relentless waters of the Cape. I'd be thrilled to know if anybody could assist with an ID, and if so, point to any diagnostic features. Scale bar is in cm. Thanks to anyone having a look.- 8 replies

I found many fossils recently while on a vacation. These were found on a beach in coastal Maharashtra, India. The beach was also full of banded agates and quartz. There are many more, but I didn't want to present too many and get confused. I think the red and white tubes and chips are agatized coral. The flat bigger pieces look like poor quality petoskey stones and the brown ring and tube looks line fossilized crinoid stem segments in mudstone. But I can be completely wrong about these. Please help me ID these finds 20210402_123443.heic 20210402_124651.heic 20210402_124555.heic 20210402_124523.heic 20210402_124922.heic 20210402_124523.heic 20210402_124922.heic 20210402_123306.heic 20210402_124651.heic 20210402_124555.heic

Hey! Ever since I found that weird bone the other day and joined this group, I’ve become more interested in fossils. Now I want to see if I’ve found any or if I’m completely off. I’m attaching several numbered pictures. Some pictures have multiple shots in an effort to show the whole item. Can you let me know if any are fossils and if so, which ones? Also, if they are, can you identify them for me? Any help is appreciated! Thank you!!

Summer vacation fossil hunting week. Like each summer Natalie and I spend 1 week of our holiday for a fossil hunting trip. Usually the destination for this is the Isle of Wight, but due to the current covid situations we had to choose another location. So we went for 1 week to the French coast altering between late Cretaceous and Jurassic deposits.. Although there were no big tide or storms we still got our fair share of fossils in the boulders on the beaches and we even had a few spots of gault clay exposed where we found some nice phosphate ammonites and crustaceans. I’ll let you all enjoy the holiday pictures: Natalie found this exqusite little lobster in situ on the beach on the 1st day: ( Hoploparia longimana, Albian ( Gault clay ) ) soon joined by another specimen. Ichthyosaur vert from the Kimmeridgian: more beach: jurassic ripplemarks: Chalky ammonites in the loose boulders: Mantelliceras sp. : lower Cenomanian Cunningtoniceras inerme Mid. Cenomanian And a large one found by a local collector that we got to take back home ( Thx a lot Luc ) ( Lewesiceras peramplum, Turonian ) And a few pieces after cleanup and prepwork: Albian Ammonites from the gault clay: Gault clay crabs: a few of the chalky ammonites: a nice rare heteromorph: Turrilites scheuchzerianus mid. Cenomanian before and after prep:

Aloha, here is the best of my collection. Since I moved together with my girlfriend, only the small and nice samples are on display, one showcase out of three. Looking forward to the day when we will have some more space. So it is a crowded mix of fossils, minerals, recent beachfinds and mosty selfmade or altered skeleton models. Sadly, only a small percentage of my fossils is selffound, although nearly all of the beach stuff is. There is the "poultry showcase", dedicated to Birds and pterosaurs (Parrot skull is a replica of course, as is the Pterosaur plate regrettably) The big showcase is a composite image because I could not get all into one foto. The whales you may know from the Palaeorecreation thread. Best Regards, J
