Tooth? Or claw? Big Brook, NJ

Found this today. My guess is some specialized shark tooth but given the irregular shape and how small it was I wanted to get community input. Appreciated!

    Dinosaur tooth?

I found this in Big Brook preserve in New Jersey. Not sure if it is a dinosaur tooth. I don’t see serrations but it looks very worn. Any help is appreciated!
  3. I am about 84.9% sure that this is a fragment of a mosasaur tooth. However I have been wrong when trying to id Mosasaur teeth before so I just wanted a few more opinions. It is from Big brook New Jersey and was found in May 2023.
  4. I went for a little walk through Big Brook park since I was in the area and found a few tidbits. While of course there were plenty of Belemites and a shark tooth, I'm not sure exactly what some of these other bits are. Next time I'll actually bring a little spade and sieve! Group photo of anything cool looking Some kind of plant? no clue at all: Is this one a belemite which retained its outer coating?

ID Help with Big Brook Vert

Hi all, I found this at Big Brook in NJ (late cretaceous) a few months ago during one of my trips. I recognize it as a vertebra, but not like any shark or fish vertebra I've found before. Any ideas?

    Big Brook Fossil ID Help

Hi all, These fossils are from a trip I recently took to Big Brook, NJ (Cretaceous, Monmouth Group) in March. I also found a great mosasaur tooth and a beaver tooth on this trip, which I've posted elsewhere. I know this lot is a bit random, but I'm hoping there might be some light shed on them. I'm especially curious on the ridged appearance of #2. For #6, I know they are all small bone fragments. Is there any way to tell dinosaur bone from aquatic reptile bone? For #7 I admit I'm not sure if it's a fossil or just a neat concretion. Thanks to any help! Chris

    Big Brook Mosasaurus Tooth

I just returned from a few days up in NJ where I had time to visit Big Brook (and Ramanessin for a little bit too). I went for a couple hours last Wednesday when I first arrived, then picked up where I left off Thursday morning. It was pretty chilly. About 28 degrees when I first woke up at 7. So I did some other work at the Colt's Neck Inn Hotel (highly recommend) until about 11. Over that time it warmed up almost 10 degrees. But I headed out. The positive to the cold weather was that I was the only one out there. It was also sunny despite the cold, and was otherwise a great day to go out. About 2pm and nearly to the Boundary Rd bridge, sifting through pile after pile of gravel, this beauty rolled across my sifting pan and I could hardly believe it. After a good 5 years and several trips, I finally found my first mosasaurus tooth! It's a bit beaten up and chipped, but I couldn't have been happier. Totally worth my beet red hands. This was my big trip maker and will have an honored place in my special fossil cabinet.

Mammal Tooth ID from Big Brook

In NJ for the next couple of days on business and able to make a side trip to Big Brook today. Among the usual shark teeth, I found this mammalian tooth. It most closely matches some photos of Pleistocene age beaver teeth that have been found. Is that what it is most likely or could it be another mammal? Apologies for the photo quality, I'm still on the road and did my best.

Fossils of Big Brook in NJ

Found this at Hop Brook in Holmdel, NJ. Any ideas?

Modern Bones From Big Brook NJ

Found these two bones from Big Brook in NJ. Seems like the one on the right is just a limb bone from a deer, but left one seems too large to be from a deer. Possibly a femur from a cow? Bear? Any other ideas?

    Mosasaur tooth from Big Brook

Tooth found yesterday (16 June 2023) at Big Brook Preserve, NJ. I am pretty sure it is a Mosasaur tooth.
  17. I know this may be a stretch but this one just seems different from all the other concretions, etc. there. Measures 1-1/2” (3.81 cm). Sorry for the not so great photos, and thanks for any help.
  18. Hello all, I just found this bone/fossil in big brook NJ. It is about 3 cm long. I originally thought it was a modern bone, still a neat find, but then after further inspection I found it was not porous and thought it might be a fossil. Anyway any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
  19. Hello All, First time posting. Joined up due to a fellow fossil hunter's request that I do so. Went out to Big Brook Preserve this past Sunday (4-23-23) and came away with a good selection of the usual suspects but one stood out. A nice Mosasaur tooth seen at the top of the pics below and in my hand in the following pics. Thanks for looking and thank you Sam for the company, the friendly conversation and helping with the fossil id. Happy Hunting everyone!
