Thanks in advance. Any help you can give this newbie will be appreciated! I found this on east coast of central Florida, about a mile west of the Indian River Lagoon. It weighs about 10 grams. Most of the vertebra is hard like stone. Except on two of the sides, those cream color areas are like very densely packed powder. I've scraped away a lot of it and am wondering if I should try to clean it all out. Does an ultra sonic cleaner help with an item like this? Also, the concrete like deposits that are filling the openings. Can I aggressively clean those holes out? Any chance it's a xiphactinus?

Hi all, This chunk is from the Lance of Weston county, WY. Is there enough here to conclude that this is a chunk of vertebra centrum? Is is spongy enough to conclude it's theropod? If so, is it big enough to conclude it's from T Rex?

Hi Fossil Forum, I found this centrum last Tuesday (Fort Bend county, TX, Beaumont Formation-Pleistocene) that has an odd hole running straight through the middle of it that I suspect is pathological. While I know isolated vertebra (and partial ones at that) are near impossible to identify, I was curious if anyone had any ideas on possible candidates for an animal it could have come from and what might have potentially caused the pathology. I'd appreciate any feedback you'd care to offer. Dimensions at the widest points are roughly 7.2cm top to bottom, 7.6cm side to side, and 5.5cm front to back. Bottom View Top View Hole from the top Hole from the bottom The hole has cortical(compact) bone on the two opposite sides, cancellous(spongy) bone on the other anterior/posterior(front/back) surfaces and doesn't show any marks that suggest it's been drilled or carved into the bone by burrowing clams or tools. It's roughly circular from the bottom and surprisingly rectangular from the top. Thanks for your time! -Cdiggs

Hi, Is this a Dromeosaur vertebra centrum?, Is there anyway to tell If it is? It’s 1.56 inches long, and is from the Drumheller valley of the Horseshoe Canyon Formation of Alberta, Canada. Thank you!!

Just got home from a day trip to the corpus Christi area, very tired so might be a bit loopy. Found this on a shoreline sort of near the lighthouse park in Port Aransas, given the environment I don't know if it is actually a fossil that was maybe dredged out of the channel or modern. I think it is a shark centrum but I've never found one before so I could be wrong. Scale was a last minute thing, it's 28 mm long. Around an inch and an eighth.

This is my first fossiling report. I got out Sunday and took advantage of the spring-like weather and the low water to do some paddling. It's still too cold for snorkeling (to my mind), though the water temps around here are historically warm for this time of year. I wore waders and searched on foot. I had a very quiet and relaxed 3-hour trip, with more paddling and drifting than collecting. I didn't come away with any stellar day-makers, but I had some fun finds. I couldn't resist picking up a few pieces of random large bone fragments and turtle material which is very abundant here. I collected a few worn whale/dolphin vertebrae, a couple of broken and worn hypurals, and a very worn Odontocete tooth. I found a small end of a turtle rib that pleased me. My favorite piece was a fairly worn shark centrum that turned out to actually be two articulated centra cemented together. I found a handful of non-big teeth, mostly worn and broken, but including a lovely 1.75-inch serrated magatooth, broken tip, with wee, tiny little cusplets. I'd be inclined to call it Angustidens, but if someone called it Chubutensis or "transitional" or similar, I'd be fine with that. It was a nice day, and the first real trip I've been on this year. G
