  1. According to someone I know. Bought this claw as an unrestored handclaw of a dromaeosaur from the Morrison formation. Near Casper. Just under 3" long. He bought without any hesitation and I am very skeptical of it. What are you guys thoughts? Again. I am definitely not buying it, just wondering.

    Help with Fossil ID

Hi All, I'm well out of my wheelhouse with these, both in anatomy and any type of ID. These came out of a collection, and I unfortunately have no information on their origin. Each photo set show what was found in two separate specimen containers (old prescription pill bottles). Contents of each bottle seem to be associated. Hoping for an ID, or at least a general direction. Someone may even recognize the formation based on the coloring of contents of the first container. Thanks in advance! Container 1 - Those appear to be claws or talons of some sort? Tried comparing to various small animals, saw some similarities, but nothing definitive. The white coloring is giving me mid-west vibes?
  7. Please help me ID this fossil I found in my backyard in Tarrant County, Texas. I was digging a new flower bed. It was found 6-8" deep. It's 1.5 inches long. Grateful for any help you can give me in ID'ing it!

    Found object

I don't know how to use this site so I hope I'm doing this right. I found this flattened and petrified piece on the Missouri River in South Dakota. I'm so curious to know what it might be.

    Wood or bill/ beak/nail?

Hello! Found in NW Alabama, Franklin county, near creek. Not sure if these are fossils, but there is a perfect hole near wide edge of the larger "half". Yes, the photos are of 2 peices that appear similar/same, as with the upper and lower bills/beaks of birds..Red Color from lighter can b seen in photos. Could it/they be from Native American adornment, or even much further back in time?? thanks! Chris
  11. Hello - This is my first post here. When I first saw this, I immediately thought it might be a tooth or some sort but dismissed it as a rock once it dried. I took a closer look the other day and noticed it did have spongy bone like texture at the ridges, and under magnification I noticed more bone like characteristics. I can't find anything like this shape anywhere. None of the teeth I've seen have roots like this, and there aren't any claws that have such a big bulbous end. Although it looks like a tooth, I don't see any straight lines/enamel like textures. This was found at a beach in Santa Cruz, Ca. This measures 4" long x 3" wide and 2" thick. It is very symmetrical. The pics represent this fossil both wet and dry to see various details. Any assistance is very much appreciated. THANK YOU!

    Raptor Claw

Peace River find. I think it is a Raptor claw. Would appreciate any other possibilities. Some questions: Can we tell left or right foot ? Which digit (Obviously not hooked)? What Raptor? and finally.. Is it modern? @Auspex
  15. Good morning! Asking for help identifying 3 fossils (two on one rock) found in riverbed in Val Verde county near Del Rio, Texas. The first 4 images are of one rock with two features. The shell imprint might be a Pecten Texana bivalve (from online fossil ID site)? The other feature might be some form of sponge like the family Clionaida?? Both features are covered with fine crystals giving a lovely glitter - any thoughts on how/why that process happened? Final three images I think are a random rock, but the shape does mimic an image online of a vertebrate toe-claw of some sort, so curious about this. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
  16. I bought a dinosaur claw from Niger. Locality is always a problem, but I am hoping to get an general label on this claw. So far I got two suggestions from my own network: it looks like a Sauropod claw or Iguanodontian. Most sauropod claws in my collection are 'flatter' (vertical) and more oval. This claw more round and flat (horizontal). The claw is 12 cm (long) and 5 cm (high). Hope to get some more insights on this nice claw. Thanks!

    Sauropod claw prep

Just purchased this Sauropod ungual/claw from Niger, haven't received it yet though. I want to prep it a bit to make it look a little better, for instance some restoration to the tip. Also I notice the black/darker patches on the bone which I see a lot on claws from Niger. Are these remnants of bone or is this matrix?
  18. Hello, I saw this Spinosaurus claw for sale today and it looked "okay" to me . Clean , no matrix , good shape . But the photos are a bit weird : no near photos, photos just from two sides (maybe to hide restorations) . Whats your opinion on it ? It was found in the Kemkem beds, morocco.
  19. I saw this Allosaurus claw for sale today . I dont know how a real Allosaurus claw looks like , so I wanted to ask If its real or fake . It shows some bone texture at the back , but it looks a bit weird (to me). It was found in Wyoming, where exactly wasnt said . Its from the jurassic period . 11 cm in length .
  20. I saw this dinosaur finger for sale today. Its labeled as Spinosaurus finger but it looks more like Abelisaurus or Deltadromeus . Is it even real or from the same dinosaur ? Whats your opinion about it ? Found in: Kemkem beds, morocco From the upper cretaceous
  21. Found in Garfield Montana Unsure if this is a foot or hand claw even after reading Troodons guide multiple times. I want to know if it's foot or hand What digit If it's a Dromaeosaur Thank you!
  22. Good Evening Everyone, After reviewing the two topics I saw on spinosaurus claws I still find myself questioning my own identification of these two spinosaurus claws. I was wondering if any of you more experienced forum goers could give these a look and help me verify if they are real? Thank you for any support
  23. Hi everyone! Looking for help in ID-ing a found object from the beach. We are absolutely bewildered as to what this is! details: -Found 1 hour north of Sydney, Australia on the beach -Heavy, fossilised object with very distinct “ribbon” like formation patter on end -texture is reminiscent of a claw or tusk -plaque-like material in crevices (it is not sand)
  24. Hi everyone! I have my eye on a Kem Kem spino claw and was hoping for a second opinion on the potential presence of shenanigans. The top looks great, but the bottom has a pretty clear difference in coloration between the tip area and the back. Although that doesn't seem to go beyond the bottom so it might just be a fluke in the mineralization or just differing levels of exposure. So what do you all think? Any insight is appreciated as always!
