Hello Peace River rat here. Been a very long time since I've been here to say hello. I found this yesterday on the Peace River just south of Brownsville. It has me stumped. I'm thinking something from the skull or tailbone region of what would have had to have been a very large animal. It's very dense and heavy. This one's a real head scratcher to me.

Found in Desoto County FL, in the Peace River. Just started fossiling and I'm high-key worried I may have just found a cool rock and not a fossil, haha. Help would be appreciated. Took the photos next to a pen for size and tried to get as crisp and well lit a photo as I could. Thanks in advance!

The bone looks very slothish to me, but I’m unable to find an image of it. It has so many articulating surfaces on every aspect that I suspect it’s a carpal/tarsal from a small sloth. The overall size is 1.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches long. No damage at all, and pristine condition.

This carnassial tooth has a prominent carnassial notch, which suggests to me that its felid vs. canid. Size is 7/8 long by 1/2 inch wide. Seems too big for any small carnivores. Thanks for helping.

Hey gang, looking for some help/insight...may not be enough here to ask but I'll throw it out. So, recently there was a thread about gator/whale teeth and it made me go thru some old creek material I had and here's a little gator tooth that I referenced. I also had this 2.5 cm long fragment below in the gator stuff which I believe is wrong but maybe not. Seems to have an ovoid cross section that's about 1.4cm across and what appears to be possible vertical narrow grooves/channels (see red arrows) and a possible central core... Thanks in advance.. Here are my finds from the Peace River in Desoto County, FL. All were collected by screening the sandy gravel from the river bottom. I found these around the time period from 1997 - 2000. Some sort of fish mouthplate or other. I'm not really that good at ID on these. Assorted shark teeth from the river.

Hasn't been too much rain in the the last few weeks so I thought I'd go down to Arcadia where I hear is rich in fossils. Does anyone know of any shallow creeks down there that are good to search in? Still waiting for the peace river to go down some more.
