    A novice at work

I have many different types of fossils. I am so new to fossils so I am requesting help identifying a few of these finds. All of these were found in El Paso County, Colorado.

    Mammal molar

San Marcos Tx River. Any ideas based off pic of type of animal? Seems to definitely be fossilized. Dark brown with some black areas. I side of molars is black stone material.

  4. Hello 👋 I am so happy to have found this forum! I have already gleaned some excellent I formation and look forward to more. I am an avid researcher. If my interest in something, in ANYTHING is piqued, I have to KNOW all there is to know about that particular subject. A blessing and a curse. My curiosity is rarely, if ever, fully satisfied. I have been told by many, many experts that several of the things I have been finding recently are absolutely NOT in Southeast Kentucky amd I MUST be mistaken. Ummm... I live in Southeast Kentucky and most (99%) of what I have found in the past several months has been from an area within 10 miles of my home. So, what am I missing? Only so much can be explained through the occasional drop or glacial deposits. Just in the past 24 hours I have found over 30 small geodes! All between 1 inch and 4 inches in diameter. All within 30 yards of each other. NOT in or near water. Also found were bits of agate, small agate nodules, crinoids, crinoid crusted geodes, loads of Rugose (horn) coral, etc...

    West Viginia petrified wood

I was visiting a friend in West Virginia who is preparing his property for building his home. It's just south of Charleston. I noticed what I think is a layer of petrified wood. Not sure though. Any information would help. There were also petrified nuts.

    Fossilized (or not?) Sea urchin

Dear friends, please advise. I found this sea urchin today, it looks like a petrified one. But it us very light, feels like wooden, and it floats. I found a fossilized sea urchin not so long ago, but that one is much heavier. So could you please advise, if this one is petrified, or what could happen with it? Thank you!

    A curious piece

Appears to have been sheared or cut.
  12. I found this walking by my home in Vermilion County, Illinois along a creek bed with other rocks. This stood out to me and the little details on it look very odd. I have tried to theorize what it is but can’t. But they look like little bones possibly? Suggestions?

    Mississippi Jawbone

Hi, I’m new to the forum. Found this last month. Any ideas as to what type of animal it was? Specimen is fossilized. Gravel bar on Mississippi River in low water condition (water level -3 ft.). Found at surface. St Louis county, Missouri

    Agatized oyster? Near Tampa FL

Hi everyone, Recently found this oyster shell specimen from an area near Tampa FL amongst dredged limestone where I’ve found agatized coral. 99% sure it’s fossilized (has a very small amount of limestone stuck to the bottom), but something interesting is that there appears to be botryoidal agate coating it. Is this an agatized oyster? Is this a common find around tampa? And can I bleach it to remove algae?
  15. Found this yesterday on a beach in north Florida. Has fiber outter, and the points looks like it would grow and split to reveal a seed inside. Juvenile coconut?

Bone found at Holden beach nc

I have many things I've picked up along the way. I'm not expert by any stretch. I'd love some help though. I'm thinking this is a fossilized bone. If not I apologize in advance. Thanks so much.

    Is this a Dinosaur?

This is a sandy rock with what looks like a little dinosaur with scales trapped within. Thanks in advance! Any help appreciated I wet the fossil in some pics. On the back you can see clearly 3 triangle toe prints. I am thinking this animal was stepped on and trapped in the mud millions of years ago, until I dug it out after a heavy rain exposed a bit.

  20. Hello I found this and some other clusters and other fossils in another area. I tried to find one like it but all this other snarge comes up and with out a reg computer it's really faustrating, This cheap phone that red cross gave me after the fire really doesn't take good pic The other items are I believe is sandstone but this person's here says they look like concrete. Thanks I hope the pic are fine
  21. I'm not joking about this but these these I thought were like regular fossils I picked them up and they like they didn't feel right I had gloves on rubber gloves you know the ones workman's gloves and if I put them in a different bag and when I got home I picked them up and I put them in water the vinegar and stuff and they got like really slimy and I just put them on the side and I got him in the steel Tupperware container and another tupperware container with muriatic acid and the other one you know so in case they do get out whatever I don't know I know it sounds funny but it is what it is the I don't know if they are mummified the worms or whatever they are but they're not fossilized and they're not like petrified and if you put water on them they'll get soft I don't know if they're like alive after millions of years I doubt it but there is a blade of grass growing out of one of the clumps of mud which is weird I was thinking about putting some water on it you know to see what grows it could be a grass seed from some you know like from when they dug them up but it's in I mean I don't understand how it could have got in that watch cluster formation because I because it broke open when they dumped it so I mean it'd be cool to see what kind of plant it would grow. The other photos are of the other mud dirt items that were in the pocket of the cluster which was probably about 6 ft aacro

    Maybe fossilized clam super hard

Ive had this what looks to be a fossilized clam in my yard 30+years , my grandfather brought it home one day, he said he found it while they were dredging in some part of Tampa bay, it's really hard my wet saw cut through granite like butter but this not so much, basically I was wondering if anyone knew what it was and if it might have turned into something cool because I want to cut it in half and put of display, I'd appreciate any shared knowledge thanks.
