Shark tooth, two jaw bone pieces(?) and a worm/ leech(?) IDs please
Rowboater posted a topic in Fossil ID
For scale the smaller "jaw" piece in the center with four "sockets" is 1" ( 2.5 cm). I thought the shark tooth (with big flat base root) was a cow shark, but seems too big? Have no clue what this slug/ worm, leech-like thing is. I dropped it on a hard tile floor and lost a small piece of the end (opposite the more interesting "antennae" on the other end.) It is hard, black fossilized. The more rounded side ("top") has a center line. The more flat side, also with center line, looks almost muscular, although could be six or more similarly sized weathered segments? Neat. The "jaw bones" are a few that I occasionally find. The longer one seems to have two rows of tooth sockets(?), about two dozen but no obvious teeth. The uglier one has four bigger or flatter sockets or segments. Any IDs would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Sorry for the scanner pics, been a nightmare lately.- 6 replies

Found within creek bed in Orange County, California. Have had this one for some time now. Always thought it looked sort of like petrified wood but is difficult to tell. The answer may be more obvious to someone else. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Fossilized wood or just plain old rock. Found within the Santiago Creek bed of Orange County, California. Any thoughts.

I found this seashell in the Netherlands and it seems to have parts in it that are fully stone, but others are lustrous. Is this fossilized, modern or is there such a thing as semi fossilized? Thank you!

I found this tooth sticking out of the ground of an eroded bank that washed away the side of a hill. I couldn't find anything else that might have been gone with it ,via , other teeth or bones that it would have been a part of. That being said , it was between Sundance and Upton on the edges of the black hills in the far north eastern part Wyoming . The ground it's self is mostly made up of clay. The tooth it's self actually fell apart while running water over it to remove the clay but in a way that you can see the make up and form of the tooth and roots of it from the inside. Any feedback on this would really help me out .

I found this in Wisconsin and it appears to be a cluster of small fossils embedded in a black rock material which attracts a magnet. Any guesses on what this could be? Maybe Medusinites or Nimbia?

Hello, I hope that I've done this right. To my very untrained eye this looks like a bone. It is: L-5.5 in. W, at the knob 2.5in It weighs 523g. I found it, along with several other items, at a rather large construction site in South Central Alaska. There were quite a few items that I found interesting. Any help that you may off is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Found in North Florida at Fort Clinch State Park. There's a lot of dredging done around this area for the naval submarines. Looks very serpentine to me, but I don't know much. I have found about a dozen of these through the years. I can't think of any additional info to give.

Hello! I have found what I believe to be shark tooth (I am unsure if it is) nearby a river in south central Indiana and need help identifying it. This is the first fossil I have ever found so I am pretty new to this. The photos are of the same tooth from different angles.

While rockhounding 20 miles north of Utahs veyo volcano, in a basalt strewn field, my son and I came across what we thought were two rocks that may be fossils. One looks to be a piece of agetized bone. The other not so sure. We would appreciate your assistance in determining if they are anything more than what we originally thought. Thank you.

I believe i have found a fossilized toe/finger, you can see in the cross section of what looks to be exactly what you'd expect if you cut a finger off.. You can see the meat of the finger with the bone in the center but you can also see the density/thickness of the bone as well as the bone marrow.. We found it in the Willamette River years ago and thought it was quartz or something until a friend pointed out the resemblance of a finger.. What do you guys think?

Found on Topsail Island while beach combing. It’s about 2” in length and has 3 hollow “tubes” that are open on one end only. I’m thinking it’s possibly some kind of coral?

I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I don't do something right. I was rock hunting this weekend near a NW Missouri small river and came across this. It looks like a petrified animal LOL. I am just baffled! It is in pure rock form. It's about 1.5" tall and about a half inch wide.
