I spy a moth, a butterfly's wing, a touch of gold and a few specs of pyrite. I do have terrible eyesight though.. Southern Indiana. Lake bed hosting Stigmaria, concretions, banded iron formations, black and gray shales, glacial tills, arsenic, pyrite, copper, concentrated electrum clays

I was fossil hunting looking in South Texas, and I ran across this vein of rock. Looked cook and can't help but wonder if it could have something of value in it. I have no clue what I'm looking at. I know it's not a fossil but so usual Can anyone help with id or where to take it to be evaluated.

20210602_214715.heicFound this sifting on intercoastal shoreline in Sarasota FL. Just off a known and excavated Native American midden! My imagination is going bonkers but could just be melted aluminum because its not magnetic and fairly light! Any input is good input! Lay it on me

Found this big piece of bedrock with this yellow colored mineral on it. To heavy to lift but I thought was neat. Looks like gold. Any thoughts?

The treasure chest with 1 million dollars in gold and gems hidden by Sant Fe, New Mexico art dealer, Forrest Fenn, has been found. Details and photos coming later per Fenn’s website. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenn_treasure 5 people have lost their life and numerous arrests have been made while searching for the treasure; so sad. Sort of like a modern day Lost Dutchman’s Goldmine hunt in Arizona except many more lives have been lost in Arizona.

Is this gold in this Medicine Bow Dendrite Agate, or pyrite in the plumes? I looked through a magnifying glass and it didnt appear to be pyrite. The dust is to small to tell. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it’s a flint core because it feels really soft and smooth. I love it’s look but when I look at the end of it there’s a golden color (please tell me it’s gold)! I’m sure it’s not .... haha... it won’t wash off or scratch off easily. Any ideas? Thanks for your help! Found in Ohio in a field ,in North central area.

Mare and I are headed to Eastern Oregon for a combined rock hunting/fossil hunting/gold prospecting trip. The month of June seems to be a good time as things have dried out, kids are still in school, and fire season hasn't really started in earnest. We'll be heading to Fossil, wandering over to Prairie City and the John Day country, then dropping down to Izee. We'll end up stopping at Delintment Lake, Glass Butte, and Hamton Butte. Our 20' RPOD travel trailer will be "base camp." A series of side trips will include visits to the Painted Hills and Sheep Rock Units of the FossilBeds National Monument. I am primarily interested in searching for ammonites but do plan on an obligatory stop at Wheeler High School for plant specimens. Obsidian and limb casts are also on my collection list. I've done a lot of research and map recon and will share pics of the trip upon return. Any suggestions on what to look for - and where - will be cheerfully appreciated!

As many of you may be aware, I quite like quietly sitting prepping little fossils with my board pins. And last year I was sent a pin vice by the wonderful @JohnBrewer And ever since, I've been happy as a very happy thing with my loupe and pins, prepping away. But all my pins have become blunt. So, I've got some more! Only the best for my fossils! Trouble is they only last about 10 seconds each. Hey ho!

Hello to all, I am new to south western Utah, looking forward to getting advice and learning about the ancient life here. Are there any good collecting sites for trilobites and maybe fish fossils here in the southwest part of the state?

Well, today was just the press release from NASA, but 130 million years ago two neutron stars collided (merged) and we just saw it (in August). It took the light, visible and otherwise, one-hundred and thirty million years to reach us. We felt the gravitational waves from these two stars, and saw the light. Of 130 million years ago. https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-missions-catch-first-light-from-a-gravitational-wave-event
