Hi! My son (10) has been very interested in Mazon Creek fossils for years, and has been asking to go down and try to hunt for fossils there. He’s quite serious, knows a lot about Mazon Creek for a kid, and has experience with both all-day hiking and moderately successful fossil-hunting. Is there any chance that someone does (or would do) a guided trip there? I would feel so much better trying the trip if we had more expert help. I know he can handle a long day in the sun hunting - but I honestly don’t have the skill to be 100% sure of what I’m doing, and I certainly don’t know exactly where to look, especially if the fossils might already be picked over by now. Do you know of any organized trips, or anyone who might be willing to take us out there for a fee? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! I've been collecting fossils here and there for a number of years but not too seriously. I recently found a nice meg tooth and that has stoked my interest - that and finding myself newly semi-retired and looking for fun outdoor activities. I divide my time between Northern VA and SWFL. I also have an interest in and collect Native American artifacts and have more shells in my Florida home than I should admit. I am interested in signing up for some guided trips to fossil hunt in VA, MD or SWFL and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I'm glad to have come across this group and look forward to seeing all of your great finds.

Fossil hunting creeks near Summerville SC savannah ga or jacksonville

I have been fossil hunting about three years and have been to one ditch on the outskirts of Summerville sc that yielded a few colorful teeth, but it is secluded and hasn't felt very safe. It is screenable since it is outside city limits. However I'd like to find some new places to try in the area. I did walk the creek on the side of the YMCA ball field but the bottom was very hard and unfruitful and I'm not even sure I was in the right place. Can anyone offer any suggestions on where I might try as I am fairly new. I'm not asking for everyone's "honey hole" as I understand it takes work to find good areas. I'm just looking to find a place I can go to maybe on a weekend trip since I live two hours away as a part time hobby. I am even open to guided fossil hunt tours if anyone knows any good ones in the Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA or Jacksonville, FL areas. Thanks!
