Goodland echinoids and gastropods-Ft Worth TX
Shaun-DFW Fossils posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I went back to cover more ground on my massive goodland exposure and found a bunch of additional hemiaster and heteraster echinoids. These are much smaller than macrasters, but I found two relatively large ones. I like the texture due to the bumps where spines once were. Tylostoma and other gastropods can be found there too. I’ll work on blasting the sand off. Tarrant county, TX in Fort Worth.- 5 replies

Kiamichi/Goodland (?) echinoids,oxytropidoceras&gastropods
Shaun-DFW Fossils posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Another hundred or so prestine hemiaster and heteraster echinoids, some foldy and rough shape oxytropidoceras of various sizes, and my first complete engonoceras ammonite. I almost forgot the hamite. I like the cylindrical shapes of the gastropods, too. Not bad for 1.5 hours on a cold day. South Tarrant County, Texas. -
I went to an “easy walking” spot to enact my own play called The Rockcracker while my daughter went to see The Nutcracker. This Goodland formation spot is a guaranteed echinoid grab every time. I have a bunch of flawless hemiaster whitei echinoids and a small number of heterasters, plus perhaps the smallest ammonite I have and a few nice gastropods.

From the album: Texas Albian (Cretaceous)
Heteraster cf. texanus Albian Texas Found at the legendary "anti-wishing well" - a site shared by my step brother and I. It's a tiny prolific exposure of comanche peak shale behind a little waterfall in a beautiful area with excellent rock climbing and great memories.-

Echies of Texas (A Few Good Things from the Glen Rose Form.)
JamieLynn posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Central Texas has been experiencing a surprisingly cool September plus quite a bit of rain! And that equals some great fossil hunting! I have gone to a few old spots and a few new spots! All in the Cretaceous Glen Rose. I am just constantly amazed at the amount of fauna in the Glen Rose. It seems like I find something new just about every time I go out! I was happy to find a new species of echinoid - a Goniopygus sp. ( very different from the previous Goniopygus I've found) It's tiny tiny, only 5mm. And I found my first really good vertebrate material - a Pycnodont jaw with teeth and a large piece of turtle (plastron?). And even thought it's no echinoid...it's still an echinoderm - my best find of the month so far....a free swimming crinoid! I had never seen one of these but thanks to the Paleontological Society of Austin and our latest field trip, I found this lovely odd little thing! Plus some good Heart Urchins and some nice little Loriolias. Goniopygus sp. 5 mm Free Swimming Crinoid: 1/2 inch (1 cm aprox) Pycnodont Jaw with Teeth 1 inch A small Cidarid Fragment and some Leptosalenia and Cidarid spines A nice Heteraster obliquetus: 1 1/2 inch A decent Pliotoxaster comanchei. 1 1/4 inch A nice little Loriolia rosana 1/2 inch Turtle bone fragment 2 inches- 19 replies
