    Fossil ID

Hey, found this fossil in canyon in the Carmel formation, Israel, lying loose on the surface. It, unfortunately, completely consists of chalk and is pretty fragile and not very clear, as a result. I suppose it's a some kind of a round shell. I really hope these photos will be good enough, it's not that clear because it all is just chalk. Do you have any guesses what it can be?
  2. Found those recently in a canyon in Israel, I think less than ten kilometers from the sea shore. By the formation and the height found, it can be from a meter to twenty five meters comparing to the banks and cliffs near by, I would assume that they are pretty old, maybe dinosaur times, can't be specific about it and can easily be mistaken ... I suppose that they can be parts of fossilized ammonites due to their swirling and ribbing. Hope the pictures will be good enough.

    Newbie can't identify fossil

Hi! I’m new here, would be very grateful if some competent people could give me a tip about what I accidentally found in Israeli desert. Thank you!
  4. I found this tooth on the beach in Tel-aviv, Israel. I looked up some photos and I think it may be an equus tooth. There haven’t been horses on that beach for a very long time so I’m wondering what time period it could be from. Thoughts?

    Ptychodus polygyrus

Hi there everybody, it's been a while I was on the forum. But I stumbled on 65+ associated teeth of Ptychodus polygyrus. My question is, how can you tell the difference between an upper and a lower tooth of Ptychodus polygyrus?
  6. Hi, Is it possible to say more than Baculites on this specimen? It is 12mm in diameter. Campanian, Mishash foration, Israel (Central Negev area). Many thanks, Oz
  7. Hi, found these at the samel spot, Hamachtesh Hagadol, Negev area, Israel. Jurassic. Both are about 25mm wide. I think they belong to the same species as the smooth one (left photo) was also found with some minor details resembling the right one. Any direction would be very appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Oz

    Fish scale fossils in flint.

While flint knapping, I found some fish scales inside the flint. The flint was a nodule inside a miocene conglomerate in northern Israel. The flint is most likely to be Eocene flint that rolled its way from a distance. Specimen A is one centimeter long, B is 5 mm and specimen C is aprox 2 mm. I hope some of you can help me identify the fish species or families. Thank you!

  10. Hi all! I found this limestone ammonite fossil in mount Carmel, Israel. Diameter is approximately 19cm. I removed the stone matrix from one of its sides and exposed a few remnants of something that looks like a coil running along the inner curves of the fossil (also mistakenly removed part of it when I just begun revealing it). I added 2 pictures that present the fossil and the detail I don't recognize. Can anyone help me identify this coil-like artifact? Thank you! :-)

Some fossils I found in north Israel

Hello, here are some fossils I found in northern Israel in the oren river. I found a lot of rocks that where filled with fossils and mainly ammonites. If anyone knows the species of these fossils I would be happy to know that. I know that there are a lot of real fossil experts in this forum so I figured maybe these fossils will be helpful to someone (maybe it's an unknown species or a species that was not found in this area). I added a covid mask for general size reference and I would be happy to hear anything you have to say about these fossils.

    Fossil find question

Hi all, I found this rock with an assortment of fossils in Israel and i am looking to find an answers to some questions i have out of curiosity. Info: Location found - Ayalon Valley River, Israel Mineral - The stone is Limestone with partially metamorphic dolostone The fossils and the imprints are crystalized, if i were to guess i would go with dolomite or calcite crystals. Basically my questions are: What type of fossils are these? From around which period are these fossils and imprints? Is it usual to find the variation found here? What is the best way to clean it? Thanks!

  14. Hello all Up for trade is this set of South-American teeth. It includes 11 Chilean and 4 Peruvian teeth. The C. chubutensis, Isurus desori and Carcharhinus cf. brachyurus (the last three are on the right side) are from Peru. The others (Megachasma pelagios, C. hastalis, Carcharhinus cf. brachyurus, Isurus retroflexus and a fish tooth labelled as dog fish (not sure if correct) and some unidentified teeth. The C. hastalis is just over 2 inch. The Megachasma pelagios is around 2 cm. The C. chubutensis is just under 2 inch and has a crack in the root, but is broken. More precise location is available with every tooth. I prefer to trade this as a set. Also up for trade are these partial teeth from the Santonian of Israel. Certainly an unusual location. What do I want in return? Squalicorax teeth from unusual locations, any Kem Kem stuff I find cool (teeth, bones, scutes, unknow stuff), reptile, amphibian or dinosaur stuff, Mosasaur teeth from Unusual locations or I'm open for any offer I like Due to Corona I can only ship after the end of the lockdown.

    Israel

Does anyone know the best sites for finding fossils in Israel? I am spending the summer there and want to make the most of the geology. I know there are cretaceous formations somewhere but I am not sure where specifically.
