Hey guys, I’m looking for some recommendations for a digital usb microscope. I’ve heard Dino Lite is a good brand, so I’ve been looking at some of their models. The main thing I’m looking to use it for is examining and measuring dinosaur teeth and serration density. I was looking at the Dino Lite AM3113 model or AF3113T model, as I’m looking for something in the $200-$300 range. The only thing I’m worried about with that model is the picture quality as the resolution is 640x480. Another reason I was leaning towards the Dino Lite is because I’ve heard they fit snug in their stands, where I’ve heard some others like Amscope were loose in the stands. Does anyone have any experience with these models? What microscopes do you guys use?

Hello, I was doing a study on the T. rex and Nanotyrannus teeth specimens I had, and I wanted to compare them against a list of known T. rex teeth with measurement. The paper: Dental Morphology and Variation in Theropod Dinosaurs: Implications for the Taxonomic Identification of Isolated Teeth (JOSHUA B. SMITH, DAVID R. VANN, AND PETER DODSON) contains a list of 115 T. rex teeth. To make it easier to compare and read the data, I combined the measurements into a single chart, added colors and lines for ease of reading, and added the size and names of the T. rex used in the study Feel free to refer to the below chart for T. rex teeth measurements. I had to split the chart into 2 due to size limitations, but if you want the full-sized PDF version (25 MB), please message me so I can send it to you by email. If you have any suggestions to improve readability, or have your own data to add, go ahead and post it here! I will be posting pics and measurements of my various T. rex and Nanotyrannus teeth here @Troodon

I have had this Officine Galileo=Italy measuring type in my collection for a long time. 1 div=0.05 mm. The objective has many bubble in the glass? I plan to make mount to hold it as it easily falls over. I plan to use it to measure tiny fossils and or fossil inclusions. it was used for measuring surface flaws, scratches etc. Not found anything as to how old is is? I welcome your thoughts. I cut the ends off of a allergy pill bottle which fits my old Nikon digital camea. I mage with camera lense resting against the plastic eye piece. Bob

fossil shark tooth | measuring in inches in centimeters
Darrell Barnes posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Here is a video I made, measuring the cusp of a Scapanorhynchus fossil shark tooth from Frankstown, MS. I used the technique suggested by a previous post regarding the measurement of the tooth cusp of "Carcharocles, Carcharodon and Isurus using anterior teeth." Does the technique and measurement I performed appear legitimate? fossil shark tooth | measuring in inches in centimeters- 3 replies
